Our Story
Every Weskara piece starts with a single bead. Then about twenty thousand more.
Weskara is a handmade beadwork brand. We make moccasins, bags, caps, wallets and accessories the slow way, by hand, in our own workshop in India.
We have been doing this for over 20 years. Today Weskara is established in Virginia, United States, and our work travels from our workshop to homes, boutiques and gift shops all across the country.
No factory floor. No machines stamping out copies. Just skilled hands, a needle, a thread, and a lot of patience.
We make everything ourselves
This is the part most brands cannot say. We do not buy finished products and put our name on them. We do not send your order to a middleman.
Every pair of moccasins and every bag is made in our own workshop, by artisans we know by name. That means we control the quality, we control the timeline, and if something is not right, we fix it ourselves.
It also means we can say yes to things other brands cannot. A color change. A custom size run. Your own design, beaded by hand. When you own the workshop, you can build almost anything.
What we believe
Handmade should look handmade. Small differences in the beadwork are not flaws. They are proof that a person made this, not a machine.
Good work takes time. A single beaded flap can take a full day. We would rather send you something beautiful next week than something rushed tomorrow.
Craft should pay well. The artisans who make our products are the reason this brand exists. They are paid fairly, work in a safe and comfortable space, and stay with us for years.
Every piece should last. Real leather, strong canvas, quality beads, and stitching that holds. These are pieces you keep, not pieces you replace.
The art behind the beads
Beadwork is one of the oldest crafts in the world, and one of the hardest to fake. There is no shortcut. Each bead is placed by hand, one at a time, following a pattern that lives partly on paper and partly in the artisan's memory.
Our designs borrow from Indian folk art, Native American beadwork traditions and the color and pattern of the American southwest. Flowers, birds, deserts, sunsets. The kind of pattern you keep looking at because you notice something new each time.
Some of our pieces carry more than 20,000 beads. Most take between one and three days to finish. All of them are made by someone who has been doing this for years.
The people who make it
Our workshop is home to 20 skilled artisans, supported by a wider circle of independent craftspeople who work with us season after season.
Many of them learned this craft from their parents. Some have been with us for well over a decade. They are not staff on a production line. They are the reason a Weskara bag looks like a Weskara bag.
We work hard to keep it that way. Steady work through the year, fair pay, training for newer artisans, and a workshop that feels calm rather than rushed. Beadwork does not happen well under pressure.
Make it yours
Because we make everything in house, customization is not a special favor. It is just part of what we do.
Change the colors. Add your initials. Send us a pattern you love. Ask for a design that does not exist yet. Our artisans will bead it for you, and we will show you a proof before we begin.
One order or one hundred, the answer is usually yes.
Weskara today
Twenty years in, the work has not really changed. Same craft, same hands, same care over the details.
What has changed is who gets to see it. Our beadwork now sits in homes and shops across the United States, in places our artisans will probably never visit, made by people whose names are not printed on the label but are stitched into every single piece.
